【さるぼぼとは？】
昔々、雪深い飛騨地方では、おばあちゃんが子供たちのために作ったお人形を作る習慣がありました。そのお人形が猿のぼぼさ（赤ん坊）に似ていることから【さるぼぼ】と呼ばれるようになりました。

【何のお守りなの？】
猿に似ていることから猿（エン）＝縁・円として、良縁・円満（縁結び、さらに魔除け・厄除け（厄がサル、病気がサル）のお守りとしても親しまれてきました。
また、飛騨のおばあちゃん、お母さんが「自分の子供や孫たちに可愛い子供が恵まれますように」という思いを込めて作られたさるぼぼは、子宝・安産のお守りとしても大切な役割を持っています。

【どうして顔がないの？】
「さるぼぼ」は、持っているその人の身代わりになって、災難から守ってくれると伝えられています。その為、あえて固定される顔を入れていないのです。また、顔が無いことで「嬉しいとき、悲しいときに、自分と同じ気持ちになってくれているように見えてくる」とも言い伝わっています。もし、さるぼぼが笑顔に見えるようでしたら…それはあなた自身が今幸せな生活を送っている証拠という事なのかもしれません。そんなさるぼぼが「カワイイ」と愛着を感じられる方が多いようです。
他に、もともとはお母さん、おばあちゃんの手作り人形だったため、顔が無い方が子供の想像性を養って遊ぶ事が出来たのではないかという説もあります。

[What is Sarubobo? ]
Once upon a time, in the snowy Hida region, it was customary for grandmothers to make dolls for their children. It came to be called [Sarubobo] because the doll resembled a monkey bobosa (baby).

[What kind of amulet is it? ]
Because it resembles a monkey, it has been popular as a talisman for good and harmonious matches (marriage, marriage, and amulet against evil (monkey for misfortune, monkey for disease)).
In addition, Sarubobo, which was made by grandmothers and mothers in Hida with the hope that their children and grandchildren will be blessed with cute children, has an important role as a talisman for children and safe childbirth.
[Why don't you have a face? ]
It is said that "Sarubobo" acts as a substitute for the person holding it and protects them from misfortune. For that reason, I didn't include the fixed face on purpose. In addition, it is said that because there is no face, "When you are happy or sad, it seems that you are feeling the same as yourself." If Sarubobo seems to be smiling, it may be proof that you are living a happy life. It seems that there are many people who feel attached to such Sarubobo as "cute".
Another theory is that since the dolls were originally handmade by mothers and grandmothers, it was possible for children to develop their imaginations and play without faces.
